The region known as the Highlands of the Mendoza River possesses all the characteristics of an alluvial soil, which are made from nutrient-rich elements that come from the melted ice that flows down from the Andes Mountains.
This brings depth, complexity and major advantages to the soil composition of the region: it is comprised of several layers, where each layer varies greatly in content from the other. This phenomenon, coupled with climatic variables, is the reason why two grapes planted in different soils bear such different characteristics, even for the same variety. We take these facts into account and meticulously apply them to our viticulture program.
Precision viticulture is a way to optimize our vineyards performance based on recognizing variables (soil, size, vigor, among others) within the same plot, and the ability to measure these variables. Understanding these variables in each plot enables us to properly manage each zone to search for homogeneity or diversity. Knowing the variability of a plot enables us to handle each area according to what we are looking for, like homogeneity or diversity.
Several years ago we began to comprehensively study our soil under the guidance of Terroir Wine Consultant Pedro Parra. As a result, we were able to identify in detail every aspect of our land, assessing and rating each of our potential plots, and classifying our vineyards in order to achieve the finest quality and personality of our wines, to truly express the characteristics of its terroir.
